The match was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai and after winning the toss, the Pakistani skipper Babar Azam decided to bat first. Pakistan didn’t have a good start as they lost their openers – Abdullah Shafique (9 runs) and Imam-ul-Haq (12 runs) quite early. Though Babar Azam tried to resurrect the innings yet he once again failed in playing a big innings and got out at the score of 50 runs. Some useful knocks were played by Saud Shakeel (52 runs) and Shadab Khan (43 runs) and Pakistan managed to put up a score of 270 runs on the scoreboard in 46.4 overs.

This was certainly a dismal performance by the Pakistani batters as South Africa has a very strong batting line up. However, the Pakistani bowlers put up a great show and they managed to dismiss batters at regular intervals. There was a time when Proteas were 235/6 in the 36th over but by the time there score was 260, they had lost 9 wickets and they were on the brink of losing the match. However, Keshav Maharaj (7* runs) and Tabraiz Shamsi (4* runs) stood their ground firmly and ensured that their team won the match.
