The IPL team Chennai Super Kings has fumbled a little after starting their IPL 2024 campaign in a perfect manner by winning the first two matches but now they have lost 2 matches on the trot.
Though it is too early to pass any judgement on the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, many have felt that Ruturaj must be under pressure and he needs to be a little sharper.
CSK started the tournament with wins against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans but then they lost matches to Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Yesterday they played their fourth match against SRH at Rajiv Gandhi international stadium, Hyderabad and lost it by 6 wickets.
After losing the toss, CSK batted first and managed to put up the target of 165/5 in their 20 overs which was chased by SRH with 11 balls remaining in their innings.
The former Aussie cricketer Matthew Hayden feels that Ruturaj Gaikwad must be under pressure as he has replaced MS Dhoni who has made the team win the IPL 5 times. Hayden is of the opinion that there were a couple of decisions which were not sharp enough. He said that when we talk about Moeen Ali as an all-rounder, he contributes well with the ball but while batting, he should be promoted up the order and he should be allowed to go out and score runs. According to Matthew Hayden, CSK was lagging in the powerplay as they had scored only 49/1 so the hope and courage that CSK needed, Moeen Ali would have provided them.
Talking about the CSK bowling, Hayden said that Maheesh Theekshana should have been brought straight away for Travis Head and they shouldn’t have waited till the fourth over.
Matthew Hayden added that it won’t be easy for Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead with the cloud of MS Dhoni. Hayden made it clear that he is not saying it is because of MS Dhoni but he is the Thala so Gaikwad may be experiencing some sort of pressure. Matthew Hayden concluded by saying that Ruturaj Gaikwad’s reaction and decision making should be a little quicker and sharper as well.
