Farah Khan is one of the most famous celebrities of the industry, she is a choreographer-director who has worked with almost all the big actors of Bollywood.
Farah Khan shares a special bond with superstar Shah Rukh Khan and when Farah Khan debuted as a director, she casted SRK in the lead role. In a recent interview, she talked about her Bollywood journey, how she got acquainted with Shah Rukh Khan and about many other aspects.
Farah Khan revealed that she choreographed Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and he was not happy playing the role of a college student at the age of 30 yrs and she knew that he wouldn’t play that type of character again. Farah Khan wanted to make a young movie with Shah Rukh but as he would not have agreed to play college student role, she reverse engineered it.
During the interview, she said, “After Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I just wanted to make a young film. Shah Rukh ne mar mar ke Kuch Kuch Hota Hai kiya, he used to say I am too old to play this college boy and he was 30 at that time!”
She further said, “So I reverse-engineered Main Hoon Na. I wanted to make a college film only with Shah Rukh. But why will Shah Rukh go to college, so the whole thing worked backwards. That if he has to go to college, he will go undercover.”
Farah Khan also revealed that initially the script and the plot were little different but she felt that it is little small so she added angle of India-Pakistan, operation Milap, etc. She said, “It started out as a small movie about Shah Rukh bursting a drug ring in the college, where his brother is also there and Shah Rukh falls in love with the chemistry teacher. But while writing I kept feeling this is a bit small, and then the whole India-Pakistan, Project Milap, Raghavan (played by Suniel Shetty) bits kept adding and the film grew.”
Farah also told how and when she narrated the script to Shah Rukh Khan, she said that she narrated the script on three-hour drive from London to Oxford while shooting for Mohabbatien. She said, “So he asked me to narrate the script in that three-hour drive. So, I did that–narrating from my handwritten script– and when we got down he said he will produce the film and he will star in it as well! But the shooting started after three years! But it’s ok, some things are worth waiting for.”
It was also said that earlier Hrithik Roshan was supposed to do the role which was played by Zayed Khan in the movie but eventually the role went to Zayed. Farah Khan confirmed that Hrithik was approached for that role and he was pretty excited for working with Shah Rukh as well but after Hrithik’s debut movie “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai” became hit, he became a big star because of which he didn’t play that role.
