There is no denying the fact that Gautam Gambhir is a slightly temperamental guy and he doesn’t mince words whenever he needs to speak his heart out.
There are reports that the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed the bowling coach Morne Morkel’s late arrival at a training session during the recent Australia tour and it upset the former cricketer enough to speak to Morkel directly at the ground. Morkel was late due to personal reasons, a matter that did not sit well with Gautam Gambhir.
Reports indicate that Morne Morkel maintained a reserved demeanor for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a series India lost by 1-3. The BCCI has been made aware of the situation, though it is ultimately up to Gambhir and Morkel to reconcile for the team’s harmony.
Gautam Gambhir is known for his strict disciplinary approach and he expressed his concerns about Morkel’s tardiness openly. The board has been informed of the coach’s concerns and it is hoped that both can work through the matter for the team’s benefit.
The Indian coaching staff has faced criticism following the team’s failure to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship final. Since Gambhir’s appointment, India has lost six of their last ten Tests. The batting coach Abhishek Nayar has come under scrutiny, with the board questioning his contributions and seeking feedback from the players. Similarly, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate’s role has been examined, with doubts raised about his international experience and capacity to elevate the team’s performance.
Meanwhile, the BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla dismissed rumours of conflicts between India Test captain Rohit Sharma, coach Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, following India’s underwhelming performance during the series.
