Sanjay Kapoor made his acting debut in the 1995 film “Prem” which also starred actress Tabu. He once spoke openly about his short-lived relationship with Tabu during the making of that film. In an old interview, Sanjay Kapoor mentioned that their romance had ended even before the movie was released.
Sanjay Kapoor revealed that by the time the film was finished, they were no longer speaking to each other. He also joked that since the movie took so long to release, he was 31 years old and referred to himself as the “oldest newcomer”. He considered it a twist of fate that even though “Prem” did not do well at the box office, his next film “Raja” released just four weeks later and became a huge hit.
Sanjay Kapoor also shed light on why his debut film was so delayed. He explained that Shekhar Kapur was originally supposed to direct the film but he was known to be a lazy person, which frustrated Sanjay Kapoor and caused a long delay. They then decided to bring on Satish Kaushik to direct and production on the film started in 1989. However, Satish Kaushik had to pause “Prem” to direct “Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja” which was a disaster upon its release in 1993. This setback affected him while he was directing “Prem” that finally came out six years after it began filming.
More recently, Sanjay Kapoor appeared in the film Param Sundari, which also starred Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. The film had a strong start at the box office, earning over Rs 26 crore in its opening weekend in India. The earnings showed a steady increase from Friday to Sunday. By the end of its first week, the movie had collected an estimated Rs 39 crore. However, its earnings dropped significantly in the second week, though it did see a small recovery on the second Sunday.
The story of Param Sundari follows a wealthy young man from Delhi named Param, played by Sidharth Malhotra. He invests his father’s money in various new business ventures. His latest project leads him to a company that uses AI for matchmaking, where he is introduced to a traditional girl from Kerala named Sundari, played by Janhvi Kapoor. Sundari helps run her family’s guesthouse with her uncle, who is a specialist in the martial art of Kalaripayattu. What starts as a simple experiment through a dating app evolves into a much deeper connection between the two.
