What was meant to be a day of celebration in Sangli turned into an unexpected, emotional pause for Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal. The couple who was set to marry in a small, intimate ceremony had to postpone their wedding after Smriti’s father suddenly fell ill on the morning of the event.

Palash’s sister, singer Palak Muchhal, gently confirmed the news, asking everyone to give the families the space they need during this sensitive moment. Her message reflected the quiet worry that had settled over what was supposed to be a festive day.
Smriti has always shared a deep bond with her father, who has stood beside her through her cricketing rise. According to her manager Tuhin Mishra, her father’s health deteriorated while he was having breakfast. At first, the family hoped it was something minor but when his health didn’t improve, they made the difficult call to seek medical help. He was taken to the hospital and placed under observation.

In an unexpected turn, Palash too had been hospitalised briefly, though he has since been discharged. Smriti’s father remains stable, closely monitored by a medical team, offering the family a bit of relief amidst the worry.
The celebrations around the wedding had already begun a week earlier in Smriti’s hometown, filled with close friends, relatives and even members of the Women’s World Cup–winning Indian team who had gathered to share her happiness. But with family health taking priority, the couple chose to hit pause on the festivities until her father recovers.

Though the wedding day didn’t unfold as planned, the love and care surrounding Smriti and her family have only grown stronger and the celebration, when it comes, will carry even deeper meaning.
