With the series already swinging firmly in their favour, the Indian women’s cricket team is using the ongoing T20I contest against Sri Lanka for more than just adding wins to the record. Head coach Amol Muzumdar has revealed that the team is deliberately experimenting, even while staying competitive, to prepare for what lies ahead.
India, the reigning ODI world champions, have raced to a 2-0 lead in the five-match series and will look to seal the contest when the two sides meet for the third game on Friday. Both the matches so far, played in Visakhapatnam, have seen the Indian team cruise to comfortable victories by eight and seven wickets, highlighting the team’s current depth and confidence.
Despite the strong results, the coaching staff is focused on the long-term picture. Amol Muzumdar explained that just as India aimed for stability during the ODI World Cup, a similar mindset is guiding their T20 preparations. With the global tournament only six months away, the team is clear about the direction it wants to move in and is using this series to test combinations and ideas, ensuring everything falls into place well before the World Cup begins.
The coach described India as a side that is constantly evolving. Improvement, he stressed, is not limited to batting, bowling or fielding alone. Fitness has now become an equally important pillar, reflecting the demands of modern cricket. Rather than isolating one department, the focus is on growing stronger across the board, day by day.
Amol Muzumdar also pointed out that the squad is still carrying the positive energy of their recent ODI World Cup triumph. Over the past month and a half, he has noticed a happier, more relaxed group on the field, comfortable with the expectations that now come with being champions. From what he observed in the opening two matches, the effort and intent from the players stood out.
At the same time, the Indian camp is not taking Sri Lanka lightly. Amol Muzumdar acknowledged their quality and made it clear that every opponent is treated as a serious challenge. While India boasts a strong squad, respect for the opposition remains central to their approach as they balance winning now with preparing for future glory.
