Some films don’t just entertain; they stay with you for life. Border was one such film. When it released in 1997, it went beyond being a war movie and became a shared emotional experience for millions of Indians. Inspired by a key battle from the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the film showcased courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood in a way Bollywood had never seen before.
What truly set Border apart was its unforgettable cast. Actors like Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu and Rakhi brought raw emotion and realism to the screen. The film’s music, especially its patriotic songs, became timeless and is still remembered with pride. Over the years, Border came to define the war genre in Hindi cinema.
Now, almost three decades later, Border 2 is all set to revive that same emotional power, this time with a mix of nostalgia and new-age storytelling.
Sunny Deol:
Sunny Deol returns as the soul of the franchise. Widely known for his strong patriotic roles, his presence instantly reconnects audiences to the original film. His return also brings continuity and emotional depth to the sequel. Unsurprisingly, he is the highest paid actor in the film, reportedly earning ₹50 crore, reflecting both his legacy and importance to the story.
Varun Dhawan:
Adding youthful energy to the cast is Varun Dhawan. Known for his ability to move among romance, comedy and action, he helps bridge the gap between older fans and younger viewers. His reported fee ranges between ₹8 and 10 crore and his role is expected to bring a modern touch to the patriotic narrative.
Diljit Dosanjh:
Diljit Dosanjh also joins the ensemble, bringing his widespread popularity as both a singer and an actor. With a reported fee of ₹4–5 crore, his inclusion expands the film’s reach across diverse audiences. His on-screen pairing with Sonam Bajwa is already being talked about as one of the highlights of the movie.
Ahan Shetty:
Representing the new generation is Ahan Shetty, son of Suniel Shetty. While his fee hasn’t been disclosed, his casting reflects the film’s aim to blend legacy with fresh talent and give younger actors space in a story rooted in national pride.
Actresses:
The female cast includes Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh and Medha Rana. Their roles add emotional strength and balance, ensuring the film goes beyond battlefield action and explores personal stories behind the uniforms.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is scheduled to release on January 23, 2026. The Republic Day week release perfectly complements the movie’s patriotic theme and boosts its box office potential.
