Barbara Mori is one of those rare stars whose career crosses borders, languages and industries. A Uruguayan-born Mexican actress and model, she first became a sensation in Latin American television before unexpectedly finding herself in the spotlight of Bollywood. Over the years, her life and career have blended success, glamour and controversy, making her one of the most talked about international faces who entered Indian cinema.

Born on February 2, 1978, in Montevideo, Uruguay, Barbara Mori moved to Mexico at a young age. She began her professional journey as a model but it wasn’t long before acting drew her in. Her breakthrough came in 2004 with the telenovela Rubí, where her powerful performance and striking screen presence turned her into a household name across Latin America. The show went on to become one of the most successful Spanish-language soap operas ever, firmly establishing her stardom.

Following this success, Barbara Mori transitioned smoothly into films. She appeared in projects such as My Brother’s Wife in 2005, Violanchelo in 2008 and Insignificant Things later that year, which was produced by acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. By the late 2000s, she was widely regarded as one of the most bankable and versatile stars of Mexico.

Her entry into Bollywood came in 2010 with Kites, directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Rakesh Roshan. Starring opposite Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori played Linda, a Mexican woman caught in a cross-cultural love story that relied more on emotion than language. The film was promoted as a bold Indo-Mexican collaboration and generated massive curiosity. Although Kites received mixed reviews and failed to meet box office expectations, Barbara Mori’s performance stood out. Many praised her for bringing sincerity and emotional depth to a role that required restraint and vulnerability and Indian audiences were intrigued by her unconventional presence.

Alongside professional attention came intense media scrutiny. During the release of Kites, rumours circulated about a close relationship between Barbara Mori and Hrithik Roshan. Gossip columns speculated that their chemistry extended beyond the screen and even linked her name to Hrithik’s separation from his wife Sussanne Khan. However, neither Barbara Mori nor Hrithik Roshan ever confirmed these claims and the rumours remained unverified.

In her personal life, Barbara Mori has experienced many changes. She was previously in a relationship with Mexican actor Sergio Mayer with whom she has a son, Sergio Mayer Mori. In 2016, she married baseball player Kenneth Ray Sigman but the marriage ended in divorce a year later. She remains close to her family including her sister Kenya Mori who is also an actress.
