A tense semifinal clash between India and England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium had everything — big runs, high pressure and even a viral moment off the field. Among the many spectators in the VIP box were former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his wife Sakshi who had come to watch the high-stakes encounter unfold.
MS Dhoni, who famously led India to victory in the very first ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, was spotted enjoying the game alongside several notable guests, including Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh. While the match itself kept fans on edge, a small moment in the stands quickly caught the Internet’s attention.
The incident happened late in England’s run chase when the team was closing in on India’s huge target of 254. During the 18th over, a delivery resulted in a brief moment of confusion. When the ball popped up after a defensive shot, there was a quick attempt by the bowler to grab it. For a split second, it seemed like a catch had been taken.
Thinking the wicket had fallen, Sakshi jumped up in excitement and began celebrating enthusiastically. However, replays showed the ball had touched the ground before it was collected, meaning it wasn’t a catch after all. While most people in the stadium quickly realised what had happened, Sakshi had already reacted.
Dhoni’s response to the situation was classic — he calmly gestured for her to relax, a reaction that perfectly reflected his famously composed personality. The moment left many people around them, including other celebrities in the VIP area, laughing.

Meanwhile, the action on the field was just as dramatic. India managed to defend their massive total of 253/7, winning the semifinal by seven runs. Sanju Samson starred with a brilliant 89 off 42 balls, while all-rounder Shivam Dube added a quickfire 43 from 25 deliveries.
With that victory, India secured their place in the T20 World Cup 2026 final and kept the hopes of defending their World Cup title alive.
