The incident happened during the first game between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium. A video showed Maryam Nawaz being warmly welcomed by league officials, which didn’t go unnoticed online. Soon after, a post from Naseem Shah’s X (formerly Twitter) account appeared to question why she was being given such special attention, comparing it to royal treatment.

The post quickly gained traction and sparked widespread discussion. However, it was deleted shortly afterward. Naseem Shah then issued a clarification, saying that his account had been hacked and that the comment did not reflect his personal views. He confirmed that the account had since been recovered.

Despite the online stir, Naseem Shah remains focused on cricket. The right-arm pacer is set to play for Rawalpindi Pindiz in the PSL 2026, with their opening match scheduled against Peshawar Zalmi.

This year’s PSL, however, is taking place under unusual circumstances. Due to the ongoing West Asia crisis, matches are being held at only two venues and without spectators. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi explained that the government has urged citizens to limit movement because of a fuel crisis linked to the situation. Measures like school closures, work-from-home policies and extended Eid holidays have already been implemented.

He added that while the league continues as scheduled, allowing large crowds in stadiums would go against public safety efforts. As a result, matches will be played behind closed doors and even the opening ceremony has been cancelled.

Amid all this, what started as a simple match quickly turned into a talking point far beyond cricket.
