Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a breathtaking performance against Chennai Super Kings in their second match of the IPL 2026 on Sunday (April 5) at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium. After being invited to bat first, RCB put up a massive total of 250/3 in 20 overs, leaving fans and opponents stunned.
The highlight of the innings was a fiery knock from Australian batter Tim David who smashed 70 runs off just 25 balls, including 8 huge sixes. He was brilliantly supported by Devdutt Padikkal who scored a steady 50 off 29 balls.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar played an explosive unbeaten innings of 48 runs from only 19 balls, hitting 6 sixes, while Phil Salt added 46 off 30 balls. Even Virat Kohli contributed with 28 runs from 18 balls, including a stunning no-look six off Matt Henry in the fourth over.
Together, the top five RCB batters smashed 19 sixes, setting a new record for the most sixes hit against CSK in an IPL match. The previous record was 17 sixes, achieved by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 at MA Chidambaram Stadium and matched by Rajasthan Royals in 2020 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
A crucial moment came when Tim David and Rajat Patidar stitched together a stunning 99-run partnership in just 35 balls for the fourth wicket, helping RCB become the first team ever to score 250 runs against CSK in the IPL history.
Interestingly, the individual record for most sixes against CSK remains with Sanath Jayasuriya (May 14, 2008, at Wankhede Stadium) and Andre Russell (April 10, 2018, in Chennai), both having hit 11 sixes in a single innings.
RCB won the match by 43 runs as CSK got all out at the score of 207 with 2 balls remaining to be bowled. This match will be remembered as a pure display of power hitting and fearless cricket by RCB.
