According to a report in a leading sports magazine, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sri Lankan cricketer Vishen Halambage have both been recommended fines amounting to 50% of their match fees following an incident that took place after Monday’s India A – Sri Lanka A clash in Dambulla. India A captain Tilak Varma could also face disciplinary action, with a proposed fine of 30%, while Sri Lanka A wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella has reportedly been recommended a 20% penalty.

The controversy erupted after the match ended, when Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was seen involved in a heated exchange with Vishen Halambage and several other Sri Lankan players. Reports suggest the confrontation escalated to the point where the Indian batter was seen shoving Vishen Halambage.

The incident reportedly followed repeated verbal exchanges throughout the tournament. According to the report, some Sri Lankan players had been sledging Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a few of his India A teammates, often making remarks related to their IPL performances.

Unlike senior international cricket, disciplinary matters in A-team matches are not handled by the ICC. Instead, match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash has forwarded his recommendations to the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket, which will now decide whether to approve and enforce the proposed sanctions.

No formal hearing was conducted, with the recommendations reportedly based on reports submitted by the on-field umpires.

The controversy overshadowed what had been a thrilling contest. Chasing 17 runs in the Super Over, India A managed only nine against slinger Kaguthas Mathulan, suffering their second consecutive defeat in the tournament. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who faced the final three deliveries of the Super Over, scored six runs, including a boundary.

Following the match, Sri Lankan players celebrated enthusiastically on the field while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and his batting partner Suryansh Shedge walked back toward the pavilion. However, the focus quickly shifted from the result to the post-match drama, which could now result in significant financial penalties for several players involved.
