As speculation over his future in India’s ODI team continues, Rohit Sharma appears to be making the most of his time away from the game. The veteran batter was recently spotted enjoying a walk in London, where he unexpectedly met former India all-rounder and ex-head coach Ravi Shastri.
Sharing a picture from their meeting on social media, Ravi Shastri described it as a chance encounter with a relaxed Rohit Sharma during a stroll in London. Ravi Shastri captioned the post as, “Great bumping into a relaxed Shaaaarma on a stroll in London.”

While fans were delighted to see the former India duo together again, much of the attention shifted to Rohit’s appearance. Many social media users felt the former India captain looked much younger than usual, with some joking that he resembled his younger self from over a decade ago.
The 39-year-old last played for India during the three-match ODI series against England last month, where India suffered a 2-1 series defeat. During the series, reports claimed that the selectors had informed the experienced opener they were planning to move on, leading to speculation that the third ODI at Lord’s could be the final match of his international career.
Rohit Sharma struggled in the first two matches of the series but responded under pressure with a brilliant century in the final ODI. Although India lost the match, his innings reassured supporters that he remains capable of performing at the highest level.
The rumours surrounding his future eventually prompted responses from both the BCCI and Rohit Sharma himself. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed the reports, stating that there had been no discussion about the Lord’s ODI being Rohit’s final international appearance. He clarified that Rohit remains a regular member of India’s ODI squad and will continue representing the country as long as he remains part of the team’s plans.
Rohit Sharma also brushed aside the speculation, saying such discussions have followed him throughout his career. He explained that his focus remains on performing with the bat, representing India, and contributing to the team’s success, adding that outside noise has never influenced his approach.
If Rohit Sharma continues to feature in India’s plans for the next ODI World Cup, he is expected to return to international action later in September when India host the West Indies for a three-match ODI series.
The fixtures are scheduled as follows – September 27 – Trivandrum, September 30 – Guwahati and October 3 – New Chandigarh.
