Suryakumar Yadav may be one of India’s biggest T20 stars but even he has his eyes on a special skill possessed by 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Suryakumar, who has scored more than 9,000 runs in T20 cricket, is India’s third highest run-scorer in T20Is. He made his India T20I debut against England in Ahmedabad in March 2021 and has represented the country in all three formats.
On March 8, 2026, Suryakumar Yadav also became only the third Indian captain to win an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. However, despite leading India to the ICC title in March, SKY was later removed as India’s T20I captain and dropped from the squad. The Mumbai batter remains hopeful of returning to the Indian team.
During a recent appearance on a YouTube channel, Suryakumar Yadav was asked which player’s skill he would like to steal. His answer was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, with the Indian star specifically pointing to the teenager’s ability to hit sixes.
Vaibhav, who is 15 years old, has quickly become one of the biggest young names in cricket. After making an impact during his first IPL season in 2025, he played an important role in India’s U19 World Cup triumph in February 2026.
He then produced a sensational IPL 2026 campaign. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 776 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 237.30, winning the Orange Cap. He also smashed a record 72 sixes during the tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav was clearly impressed by Vaibhav’s power-hitting and said that the youngster’s six-hitting ability was the one skill he would like to take for himself.
During the same interaction, SKY was asked about the toughest bowler he has faced. He picked Jasprit Bumrah, despite the fact that Bumrah has been his teammate for several years. Suryakumar has shared the dressing room with Bumrah for Mumbai Indians since 2018 and with India since 2021. He has also faced Bumrah in the nets and during his time with Kolkata Knight Riders.
Suryakumar Yadav was also asked to choose between Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma. His answer reflected his connection with both legends. He explained that Sachin was one of the biggest reasons he started playing cricket and that he grew up watching him on television. At the same time, Suryakumar has played extensively with and under Rohit Sharma, so he found it difficult to pick just one and gave both players equal preference (50-50).
Well, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s remarkable 2026 season explains why his six-hitting has caught the attention of even one of India’s leading T20 batters.
