Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may already have an India debut, multiple IPL centuries and several world records to his name but the young cricketer is still only 15 years old. In fact, he is just six days older than the 2011 World Cup final.
His age was once again on display when Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shared pictures from Tokyo, Japan, where he is currently part of India’s campaign at the 2026 Asian Games. This is his first multi-national tournament as an Indian international cricketer.
The teenager captioned his post with a playful reference to Nobita’s city, pointing towards the popular Japanese animated series Doraemon, which is based in Tokyo and is hugely popular in India.
He captioned it as, “reporting from Nobita’s city”. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi even included a picture of the famous Doraemon character in his post.

Doraemon is a robotic cat from the 22nd century who travels back in time to help Nobita Nobi, a kind-hearted but often clumsy schoolboy. The connection is even more interesting because Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has previously spoken about watching cartoons before his matches.
During the 2026 IPL season in April, he revealed that watching cartoons remains part of his pre-match routine. He explained that he does not overthink before games and still watches cartoons before matches, while making sure his focus remains on cricket.
For the teenager, cartoons appear to be a familiar way of staying relaxed before stepping onto the field. It remains uncertain whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will get an opportunity to play during the Asian Games.
India’s men’s cricket campaign at the Games begins on September 28. So far, the youngster did not feature against Afghanistan and was also on the bench during the recent one-off T20I against Japan. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has advised the young batter to wait for his opportunity.
Despite already achieving plenty at such a young age, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s latest Tokyo post was a reminder that behind the records, centuries and international debut is still a 15-year-old who enjoys watching Doraemon.
