Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan has reached another incredible milestone in international cricket. On Thursday, during the second T20I against Zimbabwe, Rashid became the first bowler in history to claim 200 wickets in men’s T20 Internationals. He achieved the historic feat by dismissing Zimbabwe’s Tadiwanashe Marumani, further strengthening his position as the leading wicket-taker in the format.

Earlier in the match, Afghanistan posted a massive total of 221 runs after batting first. Azmatullah Omarzai played a brilliant innings of 116 runs, while Ijaz Ahmadzai contributed 52 runs. For Zimbabwe, Brad Evans and Kundai Matigimu picked up two wickets each.
Rashid is now comfortably ahead of the other bowlers on the all-time T20I wicket-taking list. England’s Adil Rashid occupies second place with 171 wickets.
Interestingly, Rashid Khan made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in October 2015. Nearly a decade later, he reached another major milestone by becoming the highest wicket-taker in men’s T20Is in September 2025. He achieved that record during Afghanistan’s tri-series match against the UAE in Sharjah, when his figures of 3/21 took his tally to 165 wickets, moving him past New Zealand’s Tim Southee, who had 164 wickets.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan also registered a new record through the partnership between Azmatullah Omarzai and Ijaz Ahmadzai. Their 142-run stand became the highest-ever partnership for the sixth wicket in men’s T20Is, breaking the previous record of 139 runs set by West Indies’ Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford.
It was also Afghanistan’s highest partnership for any wicket in T20Is, surpassing the previous record of 86 runs shared by Mohammad Nabi and Ibrahim Zadran.
Chasing a challenging target of 222 runs, Zimbabwe got off to a decent start as Brian Bennett and Innocent Kaia added 39 runs for the opening wicket. However, after Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed Innocent Kaia, Zimbabwe’s batting lineup began to collapse.

The hosts soon slipped to 84/5, putting Afghanistan in a commanding position. Zimbabwe’s captain Sikandar Raza then joined Tafadzwa Tsiga and the duo fought back with an impressive 120-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Despite their efforts, Zimbabwe could not complete the chase and finished 19 runs short of the target.
Rashid Khan’s historic 200-wicket achievement, along with Afghanistan’s record-breaking batting performances, made it a memorable outing for the team.
