A disappointing debut can be difficult for any young cricketer but Indian pacer Anshul Kamboj has shown how quickly things can change with the right mindset. After an expensive outing against the West Indies, the young fast bowler bounced back strongly against New Zealand, playing a key role in India’s five-wicket victory in the first ODI.

Anshul Kamboj had a difficult start to his international career during India’s series against the West Indies at Mullanpur in October. The pacer conceded 82 runs in nine overs, making his debut a challenging experience. However, rather than allowing that performance to affect his confidence, he used it as motivation to improve his game.
His response came in the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland, where Anshul Kamboj produced an impressive bowling performance. He picked up two important wickets while conceding just 22 runs in his allotted 10 overs, helping India secure a five-wicket victory.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Anshul Kamboj explained that he did not allow one disappointing performance to affect his approach towards the game. He remained focused on his usual process and understood that a single poor outing could not define his career.

Anshul Kamboj also revealed that the experience motivated him to work harder and identify the areas where he needed improvement. He acknowledged that results do not always go in a player’s favour, making it important to stay focused and continue working on the process. The young pacer’s patience and hard work paid off in Auckland as he dismissed New Zealand batters Mitchell Santner and Nathan Smith to make a significant contribution to India’s victory.
Anshul Kamboj Explains His Bowling Strategy Against New Zealand
Talking about his bowling performance at Eden Park, Anshul Kamboj explained that the pitch offered some assistance to fast bowlers, with a little movement available off the surface. However, he stressed that maintaining the right line and length was equally important to make the most of the conditions.
He pointed out that missing the right length could allow batters to score freely. Therefore, his main focus was on consistently bowling in the right areas and making the most of the assistance available from the pitch. He also revealed that the wobble-seam delivery worked particularly well for him during the match, allowing him to use the conditions effectively and trouble the New Zealand batters.

Anshul Kamboj on the Two New Balls in ODI Cricket
The Indian fast bowler also discussed the use of two new balls in ODI cricket, with one ball being used from each end. According to Anshul Kamboj, this rule gives bowlers a better opportunity to take advantage of the conditions and make an impact with the ball. His performance against New Zealand was a strong response after a difficult international debut. With figures of 2/22 in 10 overs, Anshul Kamboj demonstrated his ability to learn from setbacks and deliver when the team needed him.
