Shreyas Iyer was looking all set to score his second century before getting out to Ebadot Hossain, his first test century came against New Zealand in November last year. Playing in the purest form of the game for the country is a big thing for a player and scoring a century on debut is no less than an achievement and Shreyas Iyer is one of those few cricketers who have scored a century on their debut. He is the 16th Indian cricketer to do so and in an interview, he talked about his test debut.

He said that he got the call just after the T20 World Cup but he wasn’t able to play well in the T20I series against New Zealand as he was getting only 2-3 overs to bat and he was getting out early while attempting big shots from the first ball. Shreyas Iyer further said that he was a deserving player for the test series but as all the players were there in the team, he didn’t expect the test call.

He added that he was mentally prepared for the big day and he had decided that whatever would happen, he would take it in high spirit like a boss. The cricketer also recalled the incident as per which Shubman Gill said to him that different things would happen if he scored a century in his debut match (“Agar tune kal 100 maar diya, toh aisa aisa hoga…”). Shreyas went on to say that he didn’t remember his conversation with Shubman Gill the next day but  when he started playing, he felt as if it was all written.

Shreyas Iyer scored 105 runs in 171 balls in the test match against New Zealand which was played at Kanpur, though the test match ended in a draw yet this innings is quite close to Iyer’s heart.

Shreyas Iyer said that it was just a like a fairytale for him because he got his test cap from Sunil Gavaskar and then he got a century which is something that not many have done. He says that is a phenomenal feeling to represent the country especially when the whole world is watching that player. He also revealed that for the next 10 days, he was not even able to reply to the messages that he received.

As far as the first test match against Bangladesh is concerned, at the end of the day 2, Bangladesh has scored 133/8. Indian bowlers Kuldeep Yadav has taken 4 wickets, Mohammed Siraj has taken 3 wickets and Umesh Yadav has dismissed 1 batter.

The Indian cricket team seems to have a good chance of winning this test match. What do you think?
