Bollywood is finally changing and it’s all happening for good. The prime film industry of India has finally started looking for genuine stories which can entertain the audience and at the same time can make them think.
This change has set the trend of biopics in Bollywood. Now Bollywood filmmakers are more interested in making biopics of real-life people and films on real-life incidents.
The trailer of Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film Raid released a few days back and it received a great response from the public. The film is set in 80’s and is based on the real-life incident i.e. the longest ever Income Tax Raid.
What happened exactly?
As per an India Today report, it was the day of 16 July, 1981 when a group of Income Tax officials raided the house of businessman and then Congress MLA Sardar Inder Singh in Kanpur. Under the leadership of the then Income Tax Commissioner of Lucknow, Sharda Prasad Pandey, total 90 experienced officers carried out this raid. They were given the safety of 200 police officers. 45 people were there to just count the notes.
This raid continued for more than 18 hours and by the end of it, a total of Rs 1.6 crore were recovered in cash. The other assets (gold, etc) were separate.
It is said that the film is inspired by this incident but not completely. This Raid was quite peaceful and in the trailer of film we can see violence.
Another Incident
There are reports which suggest that this part of film might be inspired by another incident which happened on 14th September 1989. The factories and homes of two industrialists Harish Chhabra and Chitranjan Swarup were raided by 88 Income Tax officers and Rs 2 crores approx were found but the process turned out to be really nasty.
Reportedly, Harish Chhabra managed to collect the mob outside his house and it attacked the Income Tax officers. The officers were badly beaten and some of them were paralysed forever.
They were also humiliated and were stripped naked.
