Alisha Chinai Confirms #MeToo Allegations Against Anu Malik; Malik Removed as Indian Idol Judge

The MeToo movement has been taking down harassers for 3 weeks and now Anu Malik is in the crosshairs. What started with Tanushree Dutta’s allegations against Nana Patekar, has now turned into a full fledged movement in the country. Numerous people like former politician M.J Akbar, actor Alok Nath, director Vikas bahl and many others have taken the heat for sexual harassment in workplaces.

The latest accused, Anu Malik came under fire when Shweta Pandit posted about her incident on twitter on 17 October. Shweta accused Anu Malik of sexually harassing her during her teenage years and called him a ‘pedophile’. Although Anu Malik kept denying the allegations, over the few days many other women came out with their harrowing accounts.

A whistleblower by the name of of Danica D’souza revealed to the press some seriously disturbing details about the former Indian Idol judge. She recounted an incident from Indian Idol 5 where one of the women working in the crew was inappropriately touched on the thigh by Malik during shooting. D’souza also added that Malik used to call her ‘darling, baby, sweety’ which she wasn’t comfortable with and thought the channel would take some action against Anu Malik.

Later, former colleague and ex-judge of Indian Idol Alisha Chinai also confirmed the allegations against Malik. Upon hearing all the allegations against Anu Malik the producers of the show asked him to step down from the position of the judge of Indian Idol. The channel was quoted saying that it would hire the biggest names in the music industry to join Vishal Dadlani and Neha Kakkar this season.

This isn’t the only time Anu Malik has been accused of sexual harassment, back in the 90’s famed singer Alisha Chinai also filed a case against Malik for sexual harassment. She confirmed the recent allegations by other women while talking to Deccan chronicle. She said that she agrees with every word written about it and stands by all the victims to this day. She hopes they find peace and closure in their life.

The #MeToo movement aims to provide safer work place environments to women by taking down perpetrators like Anu Malik. Apart from being condoned by the industry and losing his job as a judge, Anu Malik has also lost his reputation in the public eye view.
