Ayushman Khurrana has become the next big thing in Bollywood with his movies hitting an all time high. The actor had two back to back releases recently, titled ‘Badhaai Ho’ and ‘Andhadhun’ respectively. Badhaai Ho is a family movie that predominantly deals with the concept of old people having sex. It is a family drama that has gained a lot of attention within a week of its release. The movie is being loved by the audiences and critics alike, which makes it a rather rare sight in today’s Bollywood.
Andhadhun on the other hand is a psychological thriller that was developed to keep you on the edge of your seat. The story of a young blind man, Andhadhun stars Ayushman alongside Tabu and Radhika Apte. Full of mysterious twists and murders, Andhadhun has received a huge response which frankly the makers did not expect.
Warning: Spoiler Alert
Unlike most Bollywood movies, Andhadhun has a rather cryptic ending which leaves a lot of unanswered questions. If you haven’t seen the movie, I suggest you turn back now and give it a go first.
In the ending scene, Ayushman is shown in a café playing the piano as Radhika Apte walks in. Apte who is surprised to see him, starts talking to him and Ayushman’s character narrates his version of the story to her. In this version, Ayushman’s character never harvested Tabu’s cornea as he felt sympathetic towards her. This is the reason that he remains blind till this date, which Radhika’s character whole heartedly believes. But by the end of the movie, the ending scene shows Ayushman walking down a road using his walking stick, when he casually kicks a beer can lying on the road. What this basically signified was that he wasn’t actually blind, but how was that possible?! Was it the blind man’s instinct or could he actually see?
In a recent interview with the media, Ayushman was asked about the same cryptic ending to which the actor replied by stating that he believes that his character has actually harvested Tabu’s cornea , despite what he told to Radhika’s character. This is the theory that was doing rounds on social media and turns out that the movie’s lead is in on it too.
Not only this, further questions revealed the maker’s attempt to pay tribute to La La Land by having the ending scene similar to it. Just like Emma stone, Radhika Apte walks into the café drawn to the sound of piano which is being played by Ayushman. Sriram Raghvan was writing the movie when La La Land released and it was the director’s attempt to tip his hat off to the academy award winning motion picture .
What do you feel about the ending? Do you agree with Ayushman or do you have your own take on it? Feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comment section below.
