Bangladesh’s stunning Test victory over Australia was already making headlines around the cricketing world when Iceland Cricket added another layer to the celebrations with a brutal dig at England.

Just hours after Bangladesh defeated Australia, Iceland Cricket took to X on Sunday, August 16, to highlight England’s long struggle for Test victories in Australia.
The tweet read, “Fun fact: Bangladesh now have the same number of Test wins in Australia as England do in the last 15 years!”

Bangladesh completed their historic victory after bowling Australia out for 284 in the second innings and setting themselves a target of only 57 runs. The chase was completed comfortably, with Mominul Haque sealing the nine-wicket victory by cutting Beau Webster through to the backward-point boundary.
The result was particularly significant because it was Bangladesh’s first ever Test victory in Australia, achieved on their third attempt.
Iceland Cricket highlighted the contrast with England, noting that Bangladesh had now matched England’s number of Test wins in Australia during the past 15 years. England’s most recent Test victory Down Under came in December and ended a 14-year wait, with their previous win having come in 2011.
Bangladesh’s victory was even more impressive considering how strongly they performed throughout the match against a full-strength Australian side.
After dismissing Australia for just 198 in the first innings, Bangladesh remained in control for much of the contest and looked like the more likely team to win.

Australia showed some resistance on the fourth day, particularly through Cameron Green. The all-rounder scored 104 runs, bringing up his third Test century after lunch. However, he received very little support from the rest of the Australian batting lineup.
Bangladesh continued to take wickets at regular intervals and kept Australia under pressure. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout bowler, finishing with excellent figures of 5/66 as Australia were eventually dismissed for 284. That left Bangladesh with only 57 runs to win and they completed the chase without much trouble.
Australian captain Pat Cummins praised Bangladesh after the defeat, admitting that the visitors had been better in all aspects of the game. The historic result gave Bangladesh their first Test win on the Australian soil, while England’s own struggles Down Under remain a talking point after their long wait for a victory. And Iceland Cricket made sure to remind everyone of that difference with one savage statistic.
