Recently, a 38 years old Bengaluru woman lost more than Rs. 48K when she was trying to buy four dozen eggs for a price of Rs. 49. The woman who lives in Vasanthnagar came across an email advertisement on 17 Feb as per which a company was selling eggs at an unusual low price.

The woman explained that there was a link in the email and when she clicked on that link she was directed to a web page which gave the information regarding the rearing of hens and the method of collecting and delivering the eggs. She said that there were many attractive offers including one offer in which 8 dozen eggs were being sold for Rs. 99 but she chose to go with the one which gave the option of buying 4 dozen eggs for Rs. 49.

The woman told that when she placed the order, she was taken to contact information page and when she entered the details, she realized that the only method to make payment is through credit card. As she entered her credit card details such as CVV and expiry date, she got an OTP but before she could enter her OTP, an amount of Rs. 48,199 was debited from her credit card and it was deposited in the account named as “Shine Mobile HU”.

Luckily for the Bengaluru woman, she got the confirmation call because of which she was saved from further losses as the limit of her credit card is Rs. 3.7 lakh.

Police has filed the case under the IT act and investigation is currently going on.
