Bridgerton Season 3 Review:
As Bridgerton returns with pretty gowns, gossips over tea, blossoming love in the balls, and mamas desperate to marry off their daughters, we were wondering if the third season will be able to keep up the expectations of the fans considering the success that the last two seasons got– well, partly because of Daphne/Simon and Anthony/Kate’s passionate but heart-rendering love story. The series has so far received mixed reviews, with some saying that the new season has lost its bite. As we have completed binge-watching the four episodes, here is Bridgerton Season 3 review. Beware, dear readers, for this review may be full of spoilers that may take away the passion and “sparkle” from the real show.
Since the first season’s release, Bridgerton has established its place among the most famous period drama series. With the announcement of a third season in the making, fans were eagerly waiting for almost two years now for the release. From the beginning of the first episode, you can tell that this time, the limelight is going to belong to Penelope Featherington. But she has a lot going on already — Eloise knows that she is Lady Whistledown, while Penelope is heartbroken after she overheard Colin saying that he would never court her.
But this wallflower finally decides to make her place in society and shine, with or without Colin. While her mother is busy trying to get her two daughters pregnant for an heir, Penelope changes her style and enters the centre stage of London balls, even without being a debutante for the season. Meanwhile, the Queen is on her hunt to find the diamond of the season, for which she eventually, without any push from Lady Danbury’s plans, chooses Francesca Bridgerton. Francesca is an interesting character in this series. You can tell from her overall character that there is something off about her, but it seems that the makers have left the suspense for the next part.
Coming to the storyline for Part One, it could be told from the outset that Colin and Penelope would give us a slow-burn romance and eventually end up together, which is exactly what happened– at least for now. While the show is quite predictable, what made it interesting to watch was Colin and Penelope’s chemistry, along with the looming threat of Colin finally discovering that she is Lady Whistledown. This becomes the cliffhanger for the second part as Colin decides to marry Penelope, unaware that she is Whistledown.
Apart from that, after we got a spin-off of the series with Queen Charlotte, our perspective of the Queen, who appeared to be nasty and rude, changed. You could see her soft corner slowly developing and her and Lady Danbury’s deep attachment and friendship. We also got to see Kate and Anthony for a while, but the fleeting scene was enough to win our hearts yet again, showing the perfect couple they make up. Every scene with the Queen reminded us of the series showing its lasting impact.

For this season, Bridgerton has not created any memorable moment that is beyond passionate romance that begins from being apart to gradually coming near with the slow realisation. However, we had too many of them, with both Daphne and Anthony Bridgerton packing the series with their sagas. The new Bridgerton siblings’ story has only the Whistledown suspense to keep it afloat. Apart from the central romance, the series also has many blooming stories going all the way from Cressida Cowper to Violet Bridgerton herself.
What is worth mentioning is Nicola Coughlan’s remarkable performance. She has almost carried the series single-handedly, with commendable expressions and a disposition that seamlessly fits her character. Luke Newton, as Colin, has played his part as well, and fans are already appreciating their performance both independently and together. Newton’s outfits are also amazing and stand out in every episode. Becoming the co-lead for this season while we have Jonathan Bailey and Rege-Jean Page as the examples for the preceding two seasons was no easy job, but Newton did it well.
Anyhow, Bridgerton can carry the magic forward. However, this can be both a strong and a weak area. For the people who are tired of the same patterns and plots, the show can become a bit repetitive, while for those who enjoy the royalty and the balls along with the gossip and scandals, it can be a treat.
Conclusion–
Seeing the flooded messages and posts about Bridgerton, it is clear that the series has been able to retain its hype.
