Bollywood actor Dino Morea found himself in the spotlight on Friday, October 2, after reports claimed that he had been arrested in connection with the alleged Mithi River desilting scam. However, the actor has denied being arrested, while the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has confirmed that he was questioned but has not confirmed his arrest.

The controversy is linked to alleged irregularities in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) contracts for desilting the Mithi River. According to investigators, contractors, intermediaries and some civic officials allegedly manipulated the tender process, submitted questionable documents and showed inflated quantities of silt as having been removed.

The alleged irregularities are estimated to have caused a loss of ₹65.54 crore to the BMC. The EOW investigation covers alleged problems involving contracts, payments and documents related to the desilting work.

Dino Morea came under the investigators’ scanner after officials reportedly found phone records showing his contact with people connected to the case. Police are also examining financial transactions between Dino Morea and Ketan Kadam, who has been identified as an accused middleman in the case. According to a leading publication, investigators found several transactions between Dino Morea and Ketan Kadam, with reported amounts ranging from ₹14 lakh to ₹18 lakh.

There is also a business connection involving their families. Dino Morea’s brother Santino Morea and Ketan Kadam’s wife Punita Kadam were directors of UBO Ridez Private Limited. Investigators are therefore looking into the nature of the financial dealings and relationships between the people connected to the case. However, Dino Morea’s specific role in the alleged scam has not been established so far. The actor has not been named as an accused and his questioning remains part of the ongoing investigation.
