Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness has once again become a big headache for Team India. The Indian team management has always tried to protect Bumrah by resting him from many bilateral series and tours. The plan was to keep their best fast bowler fresh for big Test series and ICC tournaments.
But even after all this care, Jasprit Bumrah is still getting injured. His latest injury has again raised questions on whether his workload is being managed properly.
The 32-year-old fast bowler had just made his comeback in the England ODI series last month. But he got hurt during the second match of that series. Because of that impact injury, he was ruled out of India’s upcoming two-match Test series in Sri Lanka.
This is not new. Jasprit Bumrah has missed many big tournaments in the past due to similar fitness issues. Seeing this pattern, former India fast bowler Karsan Ghavri has given a strong suggestion. He feels Bumrah should take a very long break – from five to six months to even a full year – so that he can become 100% fit.
He also said that while Jasprit Bumrah is away, selectors should bring back experienced bowlers Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Talking to a leading publication, Karsan Ghavri said that Bumrah should not play if he is not fully fit. He explained that Bumrah often enters a tournament when he is only half-fit and then breaks down in the middle due to workload which is completely unnecessary. A player should only be picked if he can survive the entire tournament.
He further added that both Shami and Bhuvi have been bowling regularly in the IPL without getting injured, so they deserve to be back in the Indian team.
Karsan Ghavri concluded by saying that this on-and-off situation is not a good sign. He pointed out that while all fast bowlers get niggles, Jasprit Bumrah has been struggling with injuries for the last two to three years and has hardly completed a full series, which is worrying for both the player and the country.
Do you agree with Karsan Ghavri?
