However, the increasing fees and other expenses of schools have made education very costly nowadays and one concerned father who enquired in a school for his daughter got the shock of his life when he came to know that the yearly fee of the school is over Rs. 4 lakh for class 1.
The online user whose name is Rishabh Jain recently sparked widespread discussion on X (formerly Twitter) after sharing his experience in regard to the high fees of a Jaipur school he was considering for his daughter’s admission to Class 1.
Rishabh Jain revealed that the total yearly fee for the school amounts to ₹4.27 lakh, leading him to express his frustration. He highlighted the burden of rising education costs in India in his tweet which read, “Good education is a luxury – which middle class cannot afford”.
Rishabh Jain also provided a detailed breakdown of the fees in his tweet as he raised concerns about the affordability of quality education for middle-class families, even for those with relatively high annual incomes. “Can you afford it even if you earn ₹20 lakh a year?” he questioned, pointing out the disproportionate financial strain on households earning at this level.
Rishabh Jain’s post further addressed broader financial challenges faced by middle-class families, such as high income taxes, GST, VAT on essential goods and various other expenses like insurance premiums and pension contributions.
Rishabh Jain tweeted, “Good education is a luxury – which middle class can not afford. My daughter will start Grade 1 next year, and this is the fee structure of one of the schools we are considering in our city. Note that other good schools also have similar fees.
– Registration Charges: ₹2,000
– Admission Fees: ₹40,000
– Caution Money (Refundable): ₹5,000
– Annual School Fees: ₹2,52,000
– Bus Charges: ₹1,08,000
– Books & Uniform: ₹20,000
Total: ₹4,27,000 per year!
This is the price of quality education in India. Can you afford it even if you earn 20 lakh a year? – NO!!! Why? Because 50% of your $20k income is extorted by the government in form of Income Tax, GST, VAT on petrol, Road tax, Toll Tax, Professional tax, Capital Gain, Land Registry charges and so on. Then you still have to pay for term insurance, health insurance premiums, and PF, NPS for a old age pension. At 20L income you fall in the highest 30% + CESS tax bracket, do not qualify for government schemes, and do not receive any freebies or loan waivers like rich. In the remaining ₹10L, Either you can have food, clothes, pay rent or EMIs, and save something or you can pay school fees for your two kids … decide!! Which one would you choose?”
