Here’ Why Jats Set Haryana On Fire & How Twitter Reacted Over It - RVCJ Media

Jats are setting the state of Haryana on fire and once again the reason of protest is nothing else but reservation. First of all, let’s try to understand in brief who the Jats are…. They belong to a farming and martial community of North India and aren’t usually regarded as “backward”.

Even though the Chief Minister has offered them a special backward class quota taking into consideration the monetary status, they have rejected it. And the reason for the same is that they are asking for reservation in the category of OBC. But why?

They make up 29% of the total populace of the state, are in a good condition from the financial as well as political point of view and are affluent from the perspective of education too; BUT by getting reservation in the OBC category, they’ll be able to reserve seats in government jobs as per 27% OBC quota.

According to SC, Jats can’t be granted reservation on the basis of caste only and if the state adds reservation for Jats in the quota which is 27% OBC + 22.5% SC & ST, SC cap will be defied of 50% reservation.

As a protest, they burnt cars of Captain Abhimanyu, state minister as well as made an attempt of burning his house by forcing an entry. Not only this, they also disturbed the train services to MP, Rajasthan in addition to blocking rail tracks and highways. What’s more, 40 trains cancelled which cross the state over two days and on a number of routes, bus service has been disrupted.

One life is lost during police firing when a road close to Rohtak-Delhi bypass was blocked and several vehicles including a police jeep were set on fire. Army has been called in 8 districts and schools have been closed. Army officials had been airlifted to Rohtak when roads were dug up so that military cannot enter.
