India captain Shubman Gill believes the return of Hardik Pandya can solve one of the team’s biggest concerns ahead of the upcoming ODI challenges. The all-rounder’s prolonged absence due to injuries has affected India’s team combination, particularly in the lower middle order.

Speaking to the media on the eve of the first ODI against New Zealand, Shubman Gill said that Hardik Pandya’s return would make India’s batting line-up much stronger and provide the team with the balance it has been missing. He explained that Hardik’s inclusion would help settle the No. 7 and No. 8 positions, making the side look much more balanced with the bat.

Hardik Pandya, who usually bats at No. 6 or No. 7, has been out of action since the IPL because of multiple injury concerns. His latest setback was stress on his shin, which occurred just before he was expected to return to competitive cricket through India A matches.

Shubman Gill praised Hardik Pandya’s abilities, describing him as a special player whose qualities are difficult to replace in international cricket. He highlighted the importance of having a fast-bowling all-rounder who can contribute with the ball during every stage of an innings, whether with the new ball, in the middle overs or at the death.

The Indian captain also pointed out that Hardik Pandya’s batting makes him an extremely valuable player for the team. He admitted that it has been unfortunate that the all-rounder has not been available since the IPL, reflecting how much India has missed his services. Shubman Gill further revealed that he has been in regular contact with Hardik and that they have had several conversations about his return.

Hardik Pandya was initially expected to feature in the India A matches as part of his comeback preparations. However, he suffered another fitness setback just before those matches, delaying his return once again. Shubman Gill is hopeful that Hardik will regain full fitness soon, play a few domestic matches to get back into competitive action and eventually return to the Indian team.

The Indian skipper’s comments make it clear that Hardik Pandya remains an important part of India’s ODI plans, with his all-round abilities expected to provide the team with the balance it has been lacking.
