Some performances don’t just win matches, they rewrite history books. That’s exactly what Ishan Kishan has done in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final and by the time he was done, he’d left one of India’s oldest domestic batting records in ruins.
Leading East Zone against South Zone in the summit clash at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Ishan Kishan first smashed 270 runs in the first innings, already enough to set a new benchmark for the highest individual score by a wicketkeeper-batter in the tournament’s history. But he wasn’t finished. On Day 4, he came back out and added 80 more runs off 98 balls in the second innings, pushing his personal tally in the match to a staggering 350 runs across both innings.
That knock handed him a second record: the most runs scored by any batter in a single match in the history of Duleep Trophy. He overtook a mark that had stood since 1987, when a North Zone batter scored 320 runs against West Zone in a final at Bhilai, all in one innings, since he didn’t get a chance to bat again in that match.
Ishan Kishan, a left-hander from Jharkhand who has played a couple of Test matches for India, batted aggressively in his second-innings knock, hitting nine boundaries and three sixes along the way. He also struck up an important 126-run partnership off 170 balls for the third wicket alongside teammate Shikhar Mohan.
Shikhar Mohan himself had a match to remember, following up an 85-run knock in the first innings with 52 more in the second, impressive numbers for a player featuring in his first ever Duleep Trophy match.
Thanks to Ishan Kishan’s exploits, East Zone have built a commanding overall lead of 584 runs, with five wickets still in hand and only one day of play left. With such a massive advantage, East Zone look almost certain to be crowned Duleep Trophy 2026 champions, a huge moment for Ishan Kishan who was given the responsibility of captaining the side in India’s top domestic red-ball tournament.
