An unusual case has emerged in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, involving a married couple where a woman refused to live with her husband, citing his skin tone as the reason. The matter was reported to the police, shedding light on a series of unexpected events.
The incident began when Jyoti, a woman from Rora village under the Lahchura Police Station area, suddenly went missing from her home. Her husband Durgapal, a resident of the Lahchura Dam area, searched for her for several days without success. After seven days, the police found her but she refused to return to her husband, explaining that she took this decision because of his dark complexion.
Durgapal and Jyoti had been married for around six years. On September 2, Jyoti disappeared from their home. Following her disappearance, Durgapal filed a missing person’s report, also reporting that a significant amount of money and jewelry had gone missing. The police investigation, aided by CCTV footage and call records, revealed that Jyoti had left home on a bike with two other men.
After an extensive search, Jyoti was located in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. When questioned by the police, Jyoti shocked everyone by stating that she did not wish to live with her husband and accused him and her in-laws of dowry harassment. She went on to say that she did not like her husband as his skin tone is dark. Arun Tiwari, the station in-charge of Lahchura, confirmed that Jyoti made serious allegations against her husband while expressing her unwillingness to stay with him.
In response, Durgapal claimed that Jyoti’s behaviour had been inappropriate for some time. He alleged that she disliked his relatives and sought to distance herself from the family. He further accused Jyoti of demanding Rs 10 lakh, threatening to file a legal case against him and his family if he did not comply.
