Is Jio Lying Or Other Operators Plotting Against it? Now TRAI will decide!

Mukesh Ambani made an electrifying entry into the telecom industry with his Reliance Jio. The telecom market has just gotten more competitive than ever with the ambitious entry of Reliance Jio. Everyone is talking about Reliance Jio. Jio has taken over the market, it has taken over the internet. The landscape of the telecom industry has changed. However Mukesh Ambani accused the “old telecom” industry of abusing its dominating position to hurt Jio’s margins.

TRAI Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio has claimed that it has face over 52 crore call failures since it commercially began services on September 5.

As per the TRAI guidelines, there cannot be a call failure rate of more than 0.5% on any network. Now TRAI will look into the congestion data to check whether attempts are being made to block calls from Reliance Jio users. If it finds any truth in Reliance’s accusations against the other telecom operators, then as a breach of quality of services to consumers, serious action can be taken against the major telecom operators. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) chairman R S Sharma said,

We will certainly act very fast… We take this very seriously. Quality of service and consumer protection are key mandate of Trai and the regulator will ensure that poor services are addressed at the earliest.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) chairman R S Sharma has asked for call details and failures from all the operators, including Jio and Airtel, between September 15 and September 19. The congestion data will help him understand the reasons behind call failures.

The major telecom operators Idea, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance Jio, have submitted all the call traffic data to TRAI. This will enable TRAI to investigate the issue, looking at the pattern will help in analyzing asymmetric traffic on networks, and the reason behind the call drops.

Jio claims that call failures have exceeded over 52 crore calls since it formally began services on September 5. The matter took a drastic turn on Sunday when Airtel accused Jio of deliberately not cooperating, the accusations are just a part of the plan  “to cover up some technical issues” in its own network. Jio claims that Airtel hasn’t provided enough PoIs, where calls are handed over from one network to another. Airtel’s accused Reliance of creating a controversy over PoIs to hide the technical flaws in its own service.

R S Sharma confirmed that he has received a complaint from Jio about the call drop issue. He has asked the other telecom operators to present their side with facts, he said it would take only a couple of days to sort out this issue.
