Journo Asked Sonam Why She Took Up Husband’s Surname If She Is Feminist. Here’s What Sonam Replied

The big fat wedding of Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor and her long-time boyfriend Anand Ahuja has been talk of the town for some days. Well, it won’t be wrong to say that it was the grandest and much awaited ceremony after Indian skipper Virat Kohli and actress Anushka Sharma tied the knot in Italy last year. Now all eyes are set towards B-Town’s lovey-dovey Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh and people are making assumptions about their marriage date.

Talking about Sonam and Anand, media had keen eyes on every activity during their marriage as well as reception that was graced by most of the Bollywood celebrities. Even though they have been married for some days, people still don’t seem to get over them and the couple is making headlines every now and then.

There has been a remarkable change in Sonam’s name that can be called completely obvious too taking into consideration the Indian tradition, as Sonam took up her husband’s surname and is writing her name as “Sonam K Ahuja” which means “Sonam Kapoor Ahuja” on her social media accounts including Twitter and Instagram.

Well, when the “Khoobsurat” actress announced this change, she had to face people’s questions who asked as to what was the need for her to take up her husband’s surname if she’s a feminist.

Sonam appears to be absolutely unaffected with these kinds of remarks and terms it as ‘a matter of choice.

Here’s what she told India Today Television while attending Cannes International Film Festival 2018,

“I have been engaged for a long time. It took me a long time to decide. It’s a choice, at the end of the day. And if people don’t understand the concept of feminism, they need to go online and look at the description. And how do you know Anand has not changed his name?”

That’s an apt reply and enough to shut haters’ mouths, agree?
