It’s no surprise that social media has the biggest platform for sensationalism, whether it’s the outrage at the surgical strike or the latest gossip about Sunny Leone, but one trend that never goes out of the fashion or virality is mocking people for any and everything. But what’s disturbing is how people are so blinded to judge anything and presenting it as per their view that they do not think about the emotions of the subject or person shown in the video. All everyone cares about is how many likes or shares their post gets but they hardly ever question, how is my content reflecting that person in front of the million people who see it?
Such a similar cyber crime was committed against “Premlata Shinde” whose video as the “fastest cashier in the world” went viral for all the wrong reasons. The video with more than 14 million views and 200K shares shows a lady cashier counting cash and depositing money at a really slow speed. She was mocked mercilessly online until activist Kundan Srivastasa used the same social media and via Facebook explained as to why her slow speed is in no way funny.

Social activist Kundan Srivastava highlighted the truth and by the time you finish reading it, you will be in tears.
This honourable woman who works with Bank Of Maharashtra in Pune has suffered 2 heart attacks and a paralysis stroke and has recently joined work after a long medical leave. Despite having enough leaves to stay at home, she chose to work and retire honorably in February 2017. The people who mocked her would be ashamed of themselves after knowing that this brave woman still struggles through such everyday struggles by herself as she has lost her husband and her only son lives abroad.
The Bank inspired by her wish to work despite her medical condition has provided her with a special computer and an additional cash counter. That was the little effort they could make but how did social media reward her struggle?
The question lies not in whether social media is bad or good, it’s simply a platform but what we should question is how media crazy have we become that no one once cared to ask her why is she working so slow, as they shamelessly put a part of her day and her life without her permission?
A big shout out to activists like Kundan Srivastasa for introducing us to the bravery and courage of Mrs. Premlata Shinde whom we salute with our hearts!!
