1. 3 Idiots (2009)
Shah Rukh was approached for the character of Rancho in 3 Idiots but he refused and it went to Aamir Khan who did complete justice with the movie and it turned out to be one of the most iconic and superhit films of all time. Apart from Aamir, 3 Idiots also starred Kareena Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, R. Madhavan, Boman Irani and Mona Singh in important roles.
2. Lagaan (2001)
The 2001 released Lagaan which starred Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh in important roles went on to become one of the most successful movies and was even nominated for Oscars. Needless to say, the movie added to Aamir’s popularity and stardom and made him an international star. Lagaan was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan who rejected it because of scheduling conflicts but he must have regretted his decision after the movie turned out to be a blockbuster.
3. Ek Tha Tiger (2012)
Salman Khan was not the first choice of Kabir Khan as he wished to cast Shah Rukh for the lead role in Ek Tha Tiger but SRK was busy with some other project so he had to decline the offer and then Salman Khan came on board. Undoubtedly, he played the character so perfectly that not just the movie was superhit but the makers also came up with its sequel.

4. Robot (Enthiran) in Telugu (2010)
Shah Rukh Khan missed the chance to rule the southern industry by denying the lead role in this sci-fi magnum opus. Eventually it went to Rajinikanth and the rest is history. The movie starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the female lead while Rajinikanth played a dual role of a scientist K Vaseegaram and a humanoid robot who was named Chitti.
5. Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003)
Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. is one of the biggest hits of Sanjay Dutt’s filmy career and there is no doubt that this brilliant comedy gave a much needed boost to his career. The first choice for this classic cult was Shah Rukh Khan but he turned down the offer because of a spinal surgery.
6. Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000)
Rakesh Roshan wanted to cast Shah Rukh Khan in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai but Hrithik suggested his father to introduce a fresh face in this movie and finally it was Hrithik who made his debut in the industry with KNPH. Needless to say, Hrithik had a dream debut as KNPH turned out to be a blockbuster and became the second highest grossing movie of the year 2000.
7. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire was also one of the biggest hits and its success can be understood by the fact that it won eight Oscars. The role of the game show host in the movie was initially offered to Shah Rukh Khan but he declined and it went to Anil Kapoor who did a brilliant job.
8. Rang De Basanti (2006)
Shah Rukh Khan was offered the role of Daljit DJ in Rang De Basanti but he refused and then R Madhavan was roped in to portray the character. The movie earned accolades for solid acting performances and strong script.
9. Taare Zameen Par (2007)
According to reports, Shah Rukh Khan was initially approached for Taare Zameen Par but he rejected it and then the movie went to Aamir Khan and turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of his career. It is not known why SRK declined the offer but he must be upset over his decision after the film not only did a great business at the box-office but was critically acclaimed as well.
10. Jodha Akbar (2013)
Shah Rukh Khan and Ashutosh Gowarikar worked together in Swades and the director wished to cast him for Jodha Akbar too; nevertheless, King Khan refused to play Emperor Akbar and eventually Hrithik Roshan played the character.
