MS Dhoni, the former Indian skipper is currently playing in IPL 2024 and the majority of the fans feel that it is going to be his last IPL as Ruturaj Gaikwad has already been handed over the captaincy of the team.
MS Dhoni has been associated with Chennai Super Kings since the inaugural edition of 2008 but for two seasons, he played for Rising Pune Supergiant. CSK and Rajasthan Royals were banned from IPL for two years (2016 & 2017) and in IPL 2016 and IPL 2017, MS Dhoni played for RPS.
In IPL 2016, MS Dhoni played as the skipper of RPS but due to poor performance of the team, Steve Smith was appointed as the skipper.
The former Australian cricketer Daniel Christian was also a part of RPS and recently during a podcast he shared his experience of playing with MS Dhoni. Daniel said that even though Steve Smith was the skipper of the team, MS Dhoni was the leader of the team and he used to do whatever he wanted to do.
This is what Daniel Christian said in the podcast, “Smithy was captain, but MS was leader of the team. Even though Smithy was captain, but you know you he’d be standing there and he’d be, you know, point blokes and said move there, blokes here and there and doing their thing. Even in the batting order, the best bit about MS was, he just put up on his gear and walk out, like he’s playing under-10. If we lost a wicket maybe at 12-13 overs, maybe Ben Stokes or me or someone due to go next.”
He further added, “Dhoni stand up, put his gear and just go like that. He wouldn’t tell anyone. Smith or Coach Stephen Fleming wasn’t gonna do anything. You just let him go and get the job done.”

As far as IPL 2024 is concerned, CSK started their campaign in the best possible manner by winning the first two matches but after that, they have fumbled a little as they have lost the next two matches but today (8 April 2024) they are going to play a match against Kolkata Knight Riders. CSK will be having the home advantage as the match will be played at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai and KKR has been unbeatable till now as they have won all the three matches that they have played in the tournament till now.
After hearing Daniel Christian, each CSK fan will say, “Dhoni is Thala for a reason”.
