When young cricketers step into the spotlight, they expect tips about technique or handling pressure. But for Chennai Super Kings’ newest sensation, the first lesson came from an unexpected place – money management.
Rising all-rounder Prashant Veer, who made headlines after being picked by Chennai Super Kings for a massive INR 14.20 crore in the IPL 2026 auction, recently shared his first interaction with legend MS Dhoni. Surprisingly, it wasn’t about cricket skills at all. Dhoni advised him to be careful with his earnings, save wisely and avoid unnecessary spending.
Prashant Veer, who entered the auction with a base price of just INR 30 lakh, ended up becoming one of the highest paid uncapped players ever. Despite limited experience, just nine T20 matches, he has already shown promise with an impressive strike rate and useful left-arm spin bowling.
His selection, along with wicketkeeper Kartik Sharma, hints at CSK’s long-term planning. With Ravindra Jadeja moving to Rajasthan Royals and MS Dhoni nearing the end of his career, the team seems to be building for the future.
However, Prashant Veer is keeping his focus simple. Instead of thinking about filling big shoes, he’s concentrating on improving his own game. He understands that trying to replace a legend like MS Dhoni would only add pressure.
Adjusting to the IPL environment has also been a learning curve. The intensity and professionalism of training sessions are new to him and he admits that it takes time to adapt.
As CSK gear up to face Rajasthan Royals on March 30, all eyes will be on the youngster. Whether he lives up to the price tag remains to be seen but with grounded advice from MS Dhoni, Prashant Veer seems to be starting on the right foot.
