Najam Sethi Reveals Shahid Afridi Wanted Babar Azam To Be Replaced As Skipper, Afridi Reacts - RVCJ Media

Babar Azam-led current Pakistani side is quite a strong team but their recent failures in few tournaments and series have made fans angry and even some former cricketers demanded that Babar Azam should be removed from the post of the captain. Many fans and former Pakistani cricketers even went on to say that Babar Azam is more interested in achieving his personal milestones rather than focusing on the goals of the team but they also agree on one point as per which there is no suitable replacement of Babar Azam in the team in the present scenario.

Recently, Najam Sethi who replaced Ramiz Raja as the PCB chief some time back made a shocking revelation in an interview. He said that the first thing which he did after becoming the PCB chief was to fire the chief selector Mohammad Wasim and appoint an interim committee which was headed by former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi.

He further said that even before joining the office, the committee members said to him that some changes needed to be made and Babar Azam should also be removed from the captaincy. Najam Sethi added that though the committee talked about removing Babar Azam from the post of the captain in the beginning yet after taking up the job officially, they chose not to remove him from the captaincy.

This statement created a little controversy as many interpreted that Shahid Afridi wanted to remove Babar Azam from the post of captain but Shahid Afridi made no delay in clearing the situation as he took to Twitter and wrote, “I spoke with Mr Najam Sethi who was kind enough to confirm he was not referring to me while commenting about Babar Azam’s captaincy. He has further clarified this in his social media posts. This has put the matter to bed. All the best to Babar and his side for the series vs NZ”.

Here is the tweet:
