Usually Bollywood celebrities are hired for endorsing big brands or some sort of campaigns. Yes, considering the popularity of Bollywood celebrities, it is believed that if they are associated with the campaign, it will become popular in no time. But of course, with big celebrities come hefty price tags too!
Now recently, Assam Government had signed Priyanka Chopra for endorsing it’s ‘Awesome Assam’ Campaign, which aims at promoting tourism in the beautiful state of Assam. However, they had to pay a big price for the same. Can you guess how much Priyanka charged for the campaign?
Well, she charged a whopping 1.5 crores per day, can you believe it? This campaign went on for 10 days, which means she garnered 15 crores in total. However, the natives of Assam didn’t like this move, which sparked a controversy.
We all know that Assam is already facing financial crunch due to floods over there. Even 2 months back, the governor stated that there is immense pressure on the exchequer of the state and satisfying big demands is very difficult. The government is just capable of meeting basic needs such as salaries of employees and their pensions.
People have started a debate now, on whether celebrities who promote these state or country-based campaigns must charge hefty prices or should they do it for free. If you remember, Amitabh Bachchan was the face of Gujarat tourism and he didn’t charge anything for it. on the other hand, even Aamir Khan endorsed ‘Incredible India’ free of cost.
Might be the bank balance of Priyanka isn’t as good as that of Aamir Khan or Big B and hence, she cannot afford to do it for free. Now some other people say that celebs must not do the work free of cost, because after retirement, government wouldn’t offer them pensions or homes. In case the client cannot afford the price of the actor, he must flatly refuse rather than giving in.
However, after all this, there was was a twist in the tale as DNA reported something else! After hearing all such things about Priyanka’s charges, the State Government of Assam issued a letter, rubbishing these rumors! The letter read,
“The news that has appeared in various local Print Media mentioning that Ms. Priyanka Chopra has been paid whopping 15 Crores by the Assam Government, etc for endorsing her as a brand ambassador for the Awesome Assam Campaign’s completely false and fictitious. It is therefore completely denied.”
