This Is The Reason Why And How We Blink Our Eyes - RVCJ Media

Some people say that life is too short. It just happens in the blink of an eye. Try to explain this to a mother waiting for her son who is an Army Soldier. Some people say that an year is too short. It just happens in the blink of an eye. Try to explain this to a Medical student for whom a 4.5 years of MBBS is nowadays just a pre-qualifiers for becoming a doctor. Some people say that an hour is just too short. It just happens in the blink of an eye. Try to explain this to a pregnant woman who is in labor.

And some people definitely say that a minute is just way too short. It just happens in the blink of an eye. But don’t you dare to explain this to a person performing a 1 minute PLANK in gym ! !

We all know the reason why we say ‘Blink of an Eye’. It is just used to denote the relative fast speed. But have you ever wondered, WHY DO WE BLINK OUR EYES ? ?

Perhaps NO. So lets start cracking this up.

In reality, the idiom “blink of an eye” lasts only a tenth of a second. And on average a normal human being blinks around 20-25 times in a span of 1 minute. It is so frequent that our eyes are closed for roughly 10% of our waking hours overall. Don’t try. You will end up doing less after you have read it now.

The tear glands in the outside corner of our eyes are constantly producing tears in small amounts yet good enough for diluting our vision. With the help of blinking of our eyelids we are able to wipe them off. And this helps the surface of our eyes to be clean and moist. Blinking also helps to clear away dust particles and spread a series of lubricating fluids across our eyeball. Whenever we blink, our eyelids spread a mixture of oils and mucous secretions across the surface of the eye to keep the front surface of our eyeball from drying out. Blinking also keeps eyes safe from potentially damaging stimuli, such as bright lights and foreign bodies like dust.

Now that we know why we blink, lets see how do we blink ! !

Blinking is controlled by an involuntary reflex, an automatic nerve action. Now since we don’t have any control on when not to blink. This is kind of good for us. Our eyelids automatically closes or (BLINKS FOR LONGER PERIOD) whenever something is about to strike our face. Thus saving our ‘arse’ as well as our eyes.
