The Indian cricket team may have lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 by 1-3 but the whole world witnessed a spectacular performance from India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who also led the Indian team in the first and the fifth test matches which were played at Perth and Sydney, respectively.
Here are some records which were broken by India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25:
1. Most Wickets by an Indian Bowler in an Overseas Test Series:
Bumrah’s 32 wickets surpassed the previous record of 31 held by Bishan Singh Bedi, set in the 1977-78 series against Australia.
2. Most Wickets by an Indian Bowler in an India-Australia Test Series:
Bumrah equaled the record of 32 wickets held by Harbhajan Singh achieved during the 2000-01 series.
3. Best Bowling Figures by an Indian Bowler in an Innings in Australia:
Bumrah’s 8/72 in the Perth Test is the best bowling performance by an Indian bowler in an innings on the Australian soil.
Other than this, Jasprit Bumrah was also adjudged as the Player of the Series for his superb performances, he took 32 wickets at an average of 13.06 which is quite impressive. Though Jasprit Bumrah didn’t bowl in the last innings of the Sydney test match due to back spasm, he took 2 four-fers and 3 five-wicket hauls in 9 innings. Jasprit Bumrah has taken 77 wickets in this edition of the WTC which is the highest by any Indian bowler and he is also India’s most successful bowler in SENA countries with 145 dismissals.
Bumrah’s exceptional performance was not limited to these records. His consistent wicket-taking ability, coupled with his ability to generate swing and seam movement, made him a nightmare for the Australian batsmen throughout the series. His impact extended beyond mere numbers, as his presence instilled fear and doubt in the minds of the opposition.
Jasprit Bumrah’s record-breaking performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy2024-25 will be remembered as one of the greatest bowling performances by an Indian bowler in the Test cricket history. His impact on the series was immense and his contribution to India’s success will be cherished for years to come.
