The toss was won by the Australian skipper Steve Smith who is leading the team in the absence of Pat Cummins and it was a certainly a correct decision. Though the Aussies lost two wickets in the first session, they didn’t lose any wicket in the second session and this made the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma come up with the idea of introducing Shreyas Iyer in the Indian bowling attack.

Shreyas Iyer is a part-time bowler and the first ball that he bowled was to Steve Smith and it was a full-toss but the Aussie skipper was batting so defensively that he pushed the ball for a single rather than hitting it for the maximum. This left Hitman in splits and he was laughing while sitting on the ground.

Earlier, the Australians managed to score 480 runs because of the marvelous knocks of Usman Khawaja (180) and Cameron Green (114) and the credit for stopping the Aussies under 500 runs goes to Ravichandran Ashwin who took 6 wickets for 91 runs in 47.2 overs.

By the time this article was written, India was 228/2 with Shubman Gill (124*) and Virat Kohli (19*) on the crease. Rohit Sharma got out on the score of 35 runs and the senior Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara missed his half-century by 8 runs.
