Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has opened up about some important moments from his international career, including his experience as India’s captain, his favourite leaders and the growing responsibilities being given to young players. During a Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on Tuesday, Master Blaster shared his thoughts on several cricket-related topics.

Sachin Tendulkar represented India in all three formats and enjoyed an extraordinary international career spanning 24 years, from November 15, 1989, to November 16, 2013. During this period, he captained the Indian team in two separate stints in the 1990s. However, his record as captain was not particularly successful.
Reflecting on his captaincy experience, Sachin Tendulkar said leading India was a matter of great pride but he did not always have complete freedom to select the playing XI. He also recalled that Indian cricket went through a difficult period during the 1990s. He pointed out that the BCCI has become a much more professional organisation today compared to what it was during that decade.
When asked to name his favourite Indian captains, Sachin Tendulkar picked Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. Both the leaders have played important roles in the Indian cricket history and share a special connection with the legendary batter.

Under Dhoni’s captaincy, Sachin Tendulkar finally fulfilled his long-cherished dream of winning the ODI World Cup in 2011. Meanwhile, Ganguly led India to the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup in South Africa, where the team finished as runners-up.
Sachin Tendulkar also praised South African captain Temba Bavuma for his leadership qualities. He admired Temba Bavuma’s fighting spirit, saying that the right-handed batter has led his team from the front and produced some remarkable results for South African cricket. He also welcomed South Africa’s success in winning an ICC title, describing it as a positive development for world cricket.
Another important question during the session concerned the appointment of 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as East Zone’s vice-captain for the 2026 Duleep Trophy. Sachin Tendulkar was not entirely convinced by the decision. He believes that giving such a big responsibility to a 15-year-old at this stage may be premature.

Instead, he suggested that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi should first gain more experience by playing additional red-ball cricket and gradually develop his game. According to Master Blaster, young players should be given time to progress step by step rather than being rushed into leadership positions.
Sachin Tendulkar’s comments highlight his views on leadership, the importance of experience and the need to give young cricketers enough time to develop before taking on bigger responsibilities.
