Saina’s Father Denied Entry Into CWG Games Village. She Took To Twitter And Slammed Them

The Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal is not happy with the fact that on Monday, her father Harvir Singh Nehwal was denied entry in the Games Village at Gold Coast. This has happened because Harvir’s name has been omitted from the list of Indian team officials for the Commonwealth Games; however, earlier it was confirmed that his name is included in the list.

The Commonwealth Games are starting from April 4 and on April 1, Saina expressed her happiness on the micro-blogging site Twitter when she shared a pic of herself with her family and wrote,

“Happy to b part of #CommonwealthGames2018 #GoldCoast #Australia”

Nevertheless, as her father has not got entry in Games Village, he won’t be able to see her matches and Saina won’t get his support that is quite necessary for her. In a series of tweets, she has tagged Commonwealth Games Federation and asked them what kind of support they are offering to players.

Her first tweet read,

“Surprise to see that when we started from India for commonwealth games 2018 my father was confirmed as the team official and I paid the whole amount for that but when we came to the games village … his name was cut from team official category .. and he can’t even stay with me.”

Here’s what Saina wrote in the second tweet,

“He can’t c my matches and he can’t enter the village nor he can meet me in anyway .. what kind of support is this ..@thecgf”

Her last tweet read,

“I wanted his support as I regularly take him for my competitions …but i didn’t understand why nobody informed me all this earlier .. that he can’t enter anywhere #CommonwealthGames2018”

There are 15 persons in the Indian team officials list whose expenses won’t be taken care by the Indian government and it also includes Saina’s father and PV Sindhu’s mother Vijaya.

An Indian official told TOI,

“We were surprised about the whole issue. As far as I know the mistake is from the Indian side. We were told that the issue would be sorted out by tomorrow.”

We sincerely hope that the matter is sorted out as soon as possible so that Saina can completely focus on her game.
