All Set For Golmaal Again & Secret Superstar? This Is How Diwali Releases Performed In 10 Years

Diwali is known as the most auspicious festival of India. The day is celebrated by most of the Indians with immense joy and happiness so it carries a great value for film industry too.

For Bollywood, the Diwali period is known to be a period for gold digging. Every year, few of the biggest films release on this occasion because a huge chunk of the audience which enjoy the holidays get heavily attracted to the theatres.

Like every year, this year again Bollywood is ready to see the release of big films on Diwali period. 4th part of popular Golmaal franchise and Aamir Khan’s production Secret Superstar will hit the cinemas and expect to hit a jackpot.

But before these films release, let’s take a look at Diwali releases in last 10 years and how they performed at Box Office.

2016 (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil & Shivaay)

Karan Johar directorial Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which had Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan & Anushka Sharma in lead battled it out with Ajay Devgn’s dream project Shivaay last year.

While Ae Dil Hai Mushkil managed to cross 100 crores mark and earned 106.50 crores net at Box Office proving itself to be a Hit, Shivaay remained below expectations. The film did a business of 85 crores approx and was a loss maker.

2015 (Prem Ratan Dhan Payo)

Salman Khan & Sooraj Barjatya’s family drama Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was much hyped Diwali release in 2015. The opening collections were huge thanks to the star power of Salman and Diwali festival benefit.

However, the content was not appreciated by audience hence the film underperformed. Still, it earned 207 crores at Box Office and proved to be a Blockbuster.

2014 (Happy New Year)

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Happy New Year was one of the most anticipated films of 2014. The film released on Diwali and enjoyed a grand opening.

The content disappointed and the film couldn’t travel long. But still it made 205 crores and enjoyed the Hit status.

2013 (Krrish 3)

3rd part of Blockbuster Krrish franchise, released as one of the most anticipated films of 2013. The film took complete benefit of Diwali period but the public reports were mixed. Krrish 3 collected 240 crores net approx at Box Office.

2012 (Jab Tak Hai Jaan & Son Of Sardaar)

Yash Chopra’s last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan which had Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in lead clashed with Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar.

JTHJ earned 120.55 crores net at Box Office and Son Of Sardaar 100 crores approx.

Both films proved to be Hits but Jab Tak Hai Jaan was undeperforming one.

2011 (Ra.One)

Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Ra.One was the most promoted film of that year. However, the trailer first and the content later totally disappointed the audience. The film ended up giving a bad after-taste to makers who invested a lot in the film.

It earned 113.60 crores net at Box Office.

2010 (Golmaal 3 & Action Replayy)

3rd part of Golmaal franchise clashed with Akshay Kumar & Aishwarya Rai’s Action Replayy on Diwali 2010. While Golmaal 3 proved to be a huge Blockbuster, Action Replayy was a big Flop.

Golmaal earned 108.50 crores net approx at Box Officea and Action Replayy earned 28 crores approx.

2009 (All The Best, Main Aur Mrs Khanna & Blue)

Ajay Devgn & Rohit Shetty’s comedy All The Best, Salman Khan & Kareena Kapoor’s Main Aur Mrs Khanna and Akshay Kumar’s much-hyped film Blue had a giant clash at Box Office on 2009 Diwali.

Akshay Kumar’s Blue was a winner as far as opening is concerned but Ajay Devgn’s All The Best proved to be the ultimate winner by scoring highest in the long run.

All The Best was a Hit and did a business of 41.50 crores approx, Blue was a Below Average and earned 38.50 crores approx while Main Aur Mrs Khanna proved to be a nightmare for all involved. It earned just 7.50 crores approx at Box Office.

2008 (Golmaal Returns and Fashion)

2nd part of Golmaal franchise clashed with Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion. While Golmaal Returns collected 51 crores net approx and proved to be a Hit, Fashion was an Average grosser and earned 26.50 crores approx.

Though, Fashion received a lot of accolades from the audience.

2007 (Om Shanti Om & Saawariya)

Om Shanti Om which gave a dream debut to Deepika Padukone was one of the most anticipated films of that year due to the presence of Shah Rukh Khan in lead role.

The film released along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya which launched Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. The battle was completely one sided as Om Shaanti Om proved to be a Blockbuster and Saawariya flopped.

OSO earned 78 crores approx at Box Office whhile Saawariya managed just 21 crores approx.
