A frustrating season continues for Lucknow Super Giants as their struggles show no signs of stopping. The team recently suffered another heartbreaking defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in a Super Over, leaving captain Rishabh Pant searching for answers. Chasing a target of 156, LSG stayed in the game for most of the innings but failed to finish, marking their fifth consecutive loss this season.
What makes the situation more concerning is their poor record at home. Under Rishabh Pant’s leadership, LSG have now lost eight matches in a row on their home ground. Since he took over as captain last year following his high-profile signing, the team has struggled to find consistency and results have not gone in their favour.
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes a change in leadership could help turn things around. He suggested that Aiden Markram should be given the captaincy role. Wasim Jaffer also proposed a new batting lineup, with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh opening, followed by Nicholas Pooran at number three, Rishabh Pant at four, Ayush Badoni at five, Abdul Samad at six and Mukul Choudhary at seven. According to him, this combination could bring more balance and clarity to the team.

Rishabh Pant’s individual performance has also raised concerns. Over the last two seasons, he has scored 458 runs in 21 innings, with only three half-centuries. Although he managed 42 runs in the recent match, he could not guide the team to victory.
Wasim Jaffer believes that captaincy pressure might be affecting Rishabh Pant’s natural game. He feels Pant performs best when he plays freely without the added responsibility of leading the side. In contrast, Aiden Markram is seen as a calm and experienced leader, having successfully captained South Africa.
With 14 losses in 22 matches under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, LSG now face an urgent need to rethink their strategy before their season slips further out of control.
