News comes from Mumbai where a lady who hails from Dombivli, Mumbai has registered a complaint against the adult star turned into Bollywood actress Sunny Leone for “promoting obscenity and destroying Indian culture and society with her website”. According to Thane cop, any action regarding this case is not to be taken presently. Additionally, if we refer to their statement, Sunny’s site is not going to be blocked too.
Anjali Palan who has lodged FIR against Sunny is reported to be working with Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. As said by her, when she learns that “Leone promotes obscenity in society through her adult videos”, Anjali browsed her site known as sunnyleone.com where she saw adult content.
She wants an action to be taken against the adult movie star as well as the people uploading her videos. Sunil Shivarkar, senior inspector, confirmed about the case being registered after the complaint. In his words, “We went through the website and found that the content was objectionable.”
Speaking of charges, they are under Indecent Representation of Women Act’s section 3 (prohibition of advertisements containing indecent representation of women) and 4 (prohibition of publication or sending by post indecent representation of women), IT Act’s section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) and IPC’s sections 294 (performing obscene act in public place), 292 (obscene and indecent advertisement and display) and 292A (printing of grossly indecent or scurrilous matter). Here, if we talk about the max punishment under the IT Act’s section 67 in this case, it can be either Rs. 10 lacs fine or jail for about 5 years or both.
In accordance with VV Laxminarayana, joint commissioner of police, “No immediate action will be taken in the case as first the Thane police’s cyber cell will look into who is handling the website and other legal matters.” He added, “We have shifted the case from the local police to the cyber cell, who will investigate the matter.”
As maintained by JK Sawant, senior inspector, “We are trying to contact the website’s operator to get relevant details. We cannot block the website, but will ask the operator to remove objectionable content.”
Here speaks on the matter Daniel Weber, husband of Sunny, “People can file whatever they want. If there is a case, our attorney will deal with it.”
