The young Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma delivered a sensational performance against England in the fifth T20I at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, smashing record-breaking 135 runs. His stunning knock not only became the highest individual T20I score by an Indian but also featured a blistering 37-ball century, the second fastest for the country in the format.
The left-hander’s innings was laced with 13 sixes and 7 fours, setting another milestone as the most sixes hit by an Indian in a T20I match. His explosive batting propelled India to a commanding total of 247/9 after being put in to bat, a score they defended emphatically with a massive 150-run victory — their largest margin against England in T20Is.
The innings also included a remarkable feat when Abhishek reached his half-century in just 17 balls, making it the second fastest by an Indian in T20Is, trailing only Yuvraj Singh’s iconic 12-ball fifty against England in the T20 World Cup 2007. The striking similarities between the two players did not go unnoticed, especially by Yuvraj himself, who took to social media to shower praises on his protégé.
“Well played @IamAbhiSharma4! That’s where I want to see you! Proud of you,” Yuvi wrote on X, celebrating the young batter’s achievement.

Yuvraj has played a pivotal role in Abhishek’s development, mentoring him through crucial phases of his career. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the former Indian all-rounder arranged special training sessions for Abhishek along with fellow Punjab cricketers Prabhsimran Singh and Anmolpreet Singh at one of his properties.
Since then, Yuvraj has maintained regular contact, providing technical guidance and reviewing videos of Abhishek’s batting and net sessions to offer insights. Observers have often drawn parallels between their styles, particularly in their effortless stroke play and elegant aerial shots.
With India having already secured the series in the previous match, this dominant win sealed a commanding 4-1 victory, further highlighting the impact of Abhishek’s record-breaking innings.
