Captain of India, Dhoni supports the decision of dropping Shikhar Dhawan for Rahane and has the praised the opener for scoring 40 runs from 35 balls on Thursday.
For the 2nd semi-final, 2 changes were made by India. 1st, Manish Pandey was brought in for Yuvraj Singh and Rahane was brought in for Dhawan. This 2nd change made a lot of difference as Rahane partnered with Rohit to bring out a whooping 62 in 7.2 overs. After that, Rohit got out at 43.
Rahane knows his responsibility says Dhoni!
Even though Dhawan is batting well, he isn’t able to convert. After the loss to West Indies, the captain told the reporters that Rahane is a calm and composed person and very well knows his responsibility. This is what was expected of him. He isn’t the one who bats like Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma.
Rahane ran well!
Even though Rahane wasn’t fluent like Rohit, he did run well. This aspect misses out when Rohit partners with Dhawan. This aggressive approach by Kohli was what the team needed. They collected 9 doubles and this is just superb. Although Rahane couldn’t find boundaries, he did well.
Why Dhoni chose Rahane over Shikhar?
Dhoni states “If you see, someone who is orthodox can give us that platform from where we can launch and score those extra 10-15 runs in the last few overs,” He said Shikhar and Rahane both are good, but the thing is that Shikhar isn’t able to convert states. In such games, the new guy must get a chance. Ajinkya has been quite good in the IPL and has been a leading run-scorer as an opener.
